True, but it's not because they lack initiative. There are several reports on the net from good sources that Microsoft is putting tremendous pressure on Netbook manufacturers not to use Linux (apart from giving heavy discounts on XP) because they're really scared the low price point can become a entry point for Linux into consumer computing.

Acer recently announced a netbook based on Android OS and immediately put it on the freezer, because of direct pressure from you-know-who. But things might change - Chrome OS is directly targeted at devices like netbooks, and there are a ton of hardware manufacturers are already in their boat. So here's hoping.
