Really? You want IBM to _stop_ supporting open source just because some "suit" somewhere in this organisation has a short term viewpoint? Note that most large companies like IBM and Tata are bureaucracies in the same way that large governments (like GoI) are. I understand your annoyance at the fact that some students will get sucked into creating proprietary code. Moreover, some other students who are more "into" open source will be left out in the cold. To them I would say, reserve your energy for programmes like GSoC which do seem to mostly do the right thing.
