Dear All,

Myself have conducted half day workshop on "IT Infrastructure Management using
Linux/FOSS" in AVIT (Vinayaka Mission's University) on Monday (21-12-09).
Totally 35 Non-Teaching staffs / Technical Assistants from all departments have
attended the workshop.

I have demonstrated the use of Ubuntu 9.10 using Live DVD and introduced
various tools/softwares
for day-to-day use.

openoffice
firefox
empathy
software development tools
user management tools etc.

and also installed the same on to HDD later on. The response from the
participants was really good and I would like to specially thank Mr. Shiv
Shankar (HOD-CSE) and principal Dr. Mrs. N.R.Alamelu for the intiative and
opportunity.

Tuesday (22-12-09)

I also did a one day workshop on Fedora-12 at Periyar Centenary Polytechnic
College (Autonomous), Vallam, Thanjavur for the Third year IT students. (I am
also a Program Advisory Comittee (PAC) member for Computer Engineering / IT
Department) I have done a kickstart based installation on a Desktop PC through
network (totally 3190 packages installed) and demonstrated various foss tools
which can be used for lab experiments.

Later on, around 2.30 we had the committe meeting, and it was decided that from
3rd semester to 6th semester, all practicals and Lab experiments for Computer
Engineering and IT Department need to be taught using Linux/FOSS tools from the
next academic year. The support from Principal, HODs, staff members, Technical
Admins really impressed me and hope PCPC would be successfully implementing
Linux/FOSS from the next academic year.
