If its an unmanageable switch, try checking the tcpdump output and see if you are receiving any ping packets on the server. similarly, check on the systems if the packets are being sent consistently or not. If both are fine, then try to check on another similar switch if you have one. also, you can try different ports on the same switch. Might help.
