It is actually the hardware vendors who are notorious - they don't provide drivers. Those who do, especially open source, their h/w works as good under Linux vis-a-vis other prop. For my personal purchases, I buy h/w that has been about 6 months in the market. They cost less compared to the latest and greatest in in the market.
