I want to use GCC's front end for a project. As a first step i tried installing GCC from the source code downloaded from the official website. But i couldn't install it. Please help me out for the same.
I have Ubuntu 11.10 (32 bit OS) in my computer. It has gcc-4.6 as the default compiler. I tried installing gcc-4.4.6 from the source package (gcc-4.4.6.tar.gz) which I downloaded from gcc official mirror site but I couldn't install it successfully. I downloaded gcc4.4.6 core package (tar file) , Unzipped it and tried following ./configure sudo make install which showed me the following error vidhya@vidhya-Reserved:~/Desktop/gcc-4.4.6$ sudo make install make[1]: Entering directory `/home/vidhya/Desktop/gcc-4.4.6' /bin/bash ./mkinstalldirs /usr/local /usr/local /bin/bash: line 3: cd: host-i686-pc-linux-gnu/fixincludes: No such file or directory make[1]: *** [install-fixincludes] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/vidhya/Desktop/gcc-4.4.6' make: *** [install] Error 2 Can anyone suggest how to install any version of gcc supported by 11.10 from its .tar file.? _______________________________________________ ILUGC Mailing List: http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc
