dear all,

have been facing a dogged, persistent problem for a long time.
help me out of this chronic misery.

have an asus A7n266 motherboard, with onboard cmpci soundchip, and 4.1
speakers.

only two -speakers work under gnulinux, redhat8.0, the other 2.1 don't.

my sweatblot so far:

1) downloaded howto on sound and playing sound and read thru them.
2) google-searched and read through the links.
3) visited the cmpci website and checked their stuff. they had old
instructions for redhat6.2, followed them (had even tried this earlier on
RH7.2, then RH 7.3, and now finally on RH8.0) and no luck.
4) have also written to tech support of cmedia, a few minutes ago.

in brief:
the sound chip is detected, and the sound tests plays a sound through the
speakers, but it gets delivered to only two speakers.

instructions say i must edit the /etc/modules.conf and add the following line:
options cmpci four_ch=1
and reboot the machine.

have also tried
options cmpci rear_ch=1

no luck.

got the above commands from a cmpci readme i downloaded earlier.

please attack this problem and let's try to solve it.

:-)
LL
