Hi, There are many viruses in Linux too,but not very effective.
Actually the concept of a virus is to spawn a process without a user ownership,in Windows there is usually no ownership required for processes, but in Linux/Unix u need it hence viruses are rare and may not work for different kernels config and different distro as the /etc and /proc are different. Linux viruses can be very effective only if the same kernel config/distro is used by many machines across the world, which is not possible with Linux. However there have been many know viruses for Linux the first one was in 1997: http://news.zdnet.co.uk/story/0,,t269-s2103965,00.html U can learn to write a virus using this: http://www.vnunet.com/News/1130150 U will gain a very good insight into the process control of Linux if u do this. For all the details of viruses in Linux just goto: http://www.securityfocus.com/virus and search for Linux. U will indeed get all the info u wanted.
