frankly i am still quite supportive of *cheapo* cards( i have three rtl 8029AS) because they are about half the price, and get my low-end work done *arguably* perfectly.!
so i'll try to give a line-by-line > To throw more confusion onto the whole setup, when I used intel 100M cards > over a switch, I could easily get upto 4MB/sec data transfer for large > files. i believe these are rather slow rates compared to the theoretical limits.. ever tried making a /dev/shm partition mounted, and try to transfer from there, or probably from /dev/zero and try that? probably you'd get to know as to whether the card is at fault or the hdd speed. > The same machines with Compex cards using some wdxxx chipset would > give 300k under linux, but around 2MB under windows (The linux driver was > surely faulty). surely. i am using lin-2.4.18-14 (rh8) and i just got average 1004MB/s for 30 MB file over a p-120 -> athlon 800. (home network). but generally do feel proud to note that i get about 700-800 kBps on win-lin or lin-win .. and a 1000+mBps on lin-lin... but the worst for a win-win setup.. > I am right now thinking about getting 4 80gb 5400 rpm drives and then > setting up my celeron 366 on raid 5, raid 1 and raid 0 to see the > performence i can get out of normal dlink 100mbps cards. That way i will be > able to measure the effect of lan throughput, cpu speed and linux + samba + > win2k ;) all the best, and please post a few results if possible. helps much better to know whether my darling *cheapo* cards actually max out as bad as you say it does. keep smiling affly robins _______________________________________________ ilugd mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd
