        But, I am not too sure. do you have a ext3 partition?
        try booting with the cd and giving the option
        rescue root=/dev/rootpartition init=/bin/bash
        
        and see what fdisk -l says. if you have a backup of your
        partition table compare. if my guess is true you would have to
        reinstall both the OS.
