this is to announce the september 2k3 linux meet, tentatively for 21
september, sunday.

what's on the agenda this time?

1) ashwin baindur, would be nice if you could share your experiences at your
workplace, on issues related to gnulinux.

2) ditto for arjun sinharoy.

i feel voices from indian companies and organizations migrating, exploring
linux are important. we could learn so much and share many insights and tips.

3) haven't seen hemant saraf for a meet for a long time. would be nice to
hear him speak on security issues and digital certificates.

4) mary, hope you are ready to deliver the presentation you had earlier
promised for august.

5) vandana, would be nice if you could give a small talk on 'covering linux
in the business media' your experiences and changes you've seen over the
years towards corporate india and their approach and adoption of linux in
india, as well as how your readership responds to linux in the media.

6) would someone like to start a discussion on patent protests, unless
someone has already patented protests . . . :-)
spoonman seems to have some ideas, as does raj.

6) also, at the previous meet, several showed interest on a special-focus on
programming languages. supreet, you want to give a version of that infamous
talk you gave somewhere in south india on programming languages, where you
mentioned some unusual-named programming languages?

7) through various previous meets, i have often heard some people mention
there are hardly any topics for newbies. edwin has been raising this issue in
the previous 2 meets. as have several others. okay, so all newbies on this
list who will attend the next meet: do respond with some topics you wish
covered at this meet.

:-)

what else on the agenda?

venue: deptt of IT?
time: 2pm to forever!

cover charge: linux-delhi does not make a participation fee mandatory, but
does request participants to pay rs 50 to cover chai aur pakwan, and to
contribute to the linux-delhi resource(?) or whatever, handled by kishore
bhargava.

linux cds: those who wish to pick up / share linux cds, please post your
requests in advance, and please confirm beforehand so that you have cds burnt
and ready at the venue, from your respondents.

presentations: kindly have your presentations ready in openoffice impress or
other FLOSS software, to avoid feeling powerless and pointless at the meeting
with anything else.
do also publish the copyright or copyleft notice of your presentation, and
optionally have it uploaded to the website for distribution and archival.

presentation format:

personally, i would strongly advise all participants to make mental/physical
notes of queries and clarifications during a presentation made by a speaker,
and raise these at the *end* of the presentation. who knows, maybe that query
may just be answered in the next point or slide.
patience is not just a kde game of cards.

alternatively, *at least* let the speaker *finish all points* on a slide
before you piranha-attack him or her.

as a last resort, at least call a temporary truce when you hear me strum the
guitar as a signal so the speaker can breathe, and move on to the point/slide.

finally, do end the presentation with a round of applause for the poor soul.

i promise a polo mint to each if we can have 15 unbroken minutes of *no*
M$-bashing in discussions, so we can focus on more juicy topics in the linux
world.

okay, make that 13 minutes.

har! har! welcome to the mad mad mad world of linux-delhi . . . !

:-)
LL
