thanks bhaskar no i am not using any kind of patches, and for ur information i am using RedHat 8.0. Using the latest kernel release 2.4.20. and i have no devices earlier intalled on my system. One more thing u have said to passw hdc=noprobe and hdd=noprobe, but will u plz tell me how to do that. i am a newbie to linux.
