...and you thought the Indian Government suxqu0red at censorship! A message from Kristian Hermansen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> on a security mailing list raises the issue of Internet censorship, which now appears to have hit google.com too. Apparently the owner of the popular Kazaa package has filed a complaint against Google alleging copyright violation by a number of web sites. As a consequence Google has removed references to those sites from its search results, with a message at the bottom of the page specifying that results have been suppressed due to the DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act, one of the many weapons in the armoury of the large corporation against the individual). You can check this out for yourself by doing a search for kazaa lite k++ on google.com or google.co.in (yes, the Indian site suffers from the same issue of censorship). To ease your way, here's a minimal pre-constructed URL: http://www.google.com/search?q=kazaa+lite+k%2B%2B The censorship notice is at the bottom of the page. On the Indian page it reads: > humein Digital Millennium Copyright Act se milee shikayat ki vajey se > humne iss panne se 4 nateeje nikaal diye hain. Agar aap chahe to aap > in nateejo ke khilaf likhi hiu DMCA ki shikayat paddh sakte hain. 10 out of 10 for language skills, Google, and minus several million for showing us that any idiot with a lawyer can succeed in censoring a service that we all use on a daily basis.
