This from the Department of Homeland Security, who recently amazed the
security community by purchasing $umpteen millions worth of MS
software.

Isn't the US just alienating itself from the rest of the world in more
and more areas? They don't have too many friends left politically,
Government buying of MS is rampant while other countries are at least
looking at generic policies for evaluating FLOSS, there's a backlash
against call centre (OK, BPO) outsourcing in the country so their
economy is probably going to go for a six when other nations start
selling cheaper services, laws like PATRIOT and DMCA are severely
cutting down published research in security and they're trying to
arm-twist the rest of the world into following their lead on
IP-related issues like software patents and prosecuting music sharing
while the rest of the world seems to have it's own direction to go
in. Maybe we should stop worrying about what a soon-to-be has-been
superpower is enacting within its territory?

So who's next in the queue? France? Germany? China? India [duck]?
:)

Regards,
