Hi,
   This mail is inspired ;> by an ongoing thread on linux-mumbai list . It talks abt
why viruses affect windows and not Linux . The two(or one ) most common reason IMHO
are
1)Well there is nothing like auto execute in linux
(dnw -> chmod 755 -> ./FILENAME)
2)File extension are never hidden
something to these effect . But if somebody here can come up with a slightly more
detailed knowledge abt the subject (with reg to stuff like execution envirment ,
manuplation of sys file (mostly .so in this case ) , the kernel etc ) it will be
really grt :), another thing worth considering is the fact most of new cases of attack
are worm rather than viruses .AFAIK *nix had it's fair share of worm attacks but why
has is stopped now ?

Also the mere fact that microsoft auto launches a file makes it less secure but more
user friendly on the other hand linux is at other end of spectrum . But shouldn't
there be a middle grnd where We can securely auto launch files within a sandbox sought
of an enviroment

 bye
