what do you actually want to do? LFS kernels dont suggest an initrd (in the 
beginning; you can always add initrd support later). what does the book say? 
if you are straying from the book, i suggest you consult the LFS mailing 
list.

have you tried building lsilogic support into the kernel? that should get rid 
of the need for initrd.
else, how about reading Documentation/initrd.txt (under kernel sources 
directory)?
