To get the ans of above you have to know basic security policy of Linux/Unix.
In windows there are excutalbe files but in Linux there is no such things. A
file is excutable if it has only excutable permission.

Also in Unix/Linux most of the system files & admins excutables files are kept
separated from normal user mainly in /usr/sbin & /etc. Now a normal user only
have read permission to these location. So a normal user can not do any thing
in these location more over when in a program some system calls are called
ther kernal checks user of that program & if he/she is allowed to call the
system call if not the system call is not performed & error mesg is
generated.

Now in a Linux system nornal ppl generally log as a normal user so if he/she
downlaod a virus file he/she has to at first give it a excutable permission
then have to excute it then again if the virus want to do harm to system it
can not coz it can not have write or excutable permissions to system admin's
aread like /usr , /etc .

So if a ppl running a linux box is not very much stupid he/she will not run it
as root for general purpose.

thanx for the information , however i'm still left with one question, how do viruses still work on linux then, so as to have anti viruses being available to cure them? is it bcoz of the user's stupidity to run the scripts as root or what?
