I installed the PCQuest 2004 linux and opted for the 2.6 kernel along with the standard 2.4 kernel.
I have a CM8738 which didnot work in either of the kernels i had to recompile the alsa in 2.6 to get the sound working.
Even now my CDROM and USB drive(thumbdrive) donot work in the 2.6 kernel
i get
modprobe FATAL block_major_11_0 not found error
(or 8 instead of 11) when i try mounting my
usb drive or the cdrom. 11 and 8 are the major numbers representing the device drivers to be used
and when i checked in /etc/modprobe.conf it corresponded to sr_mod and sd_mod ,which were already loaded in the kernel ..!!!!!!!!
whats going on man....
somebody please help me this has driven me nuts...
