Hi all, I finally decided to move to grub, but it seems the trip is not easy. I tried installing grub using the shell from the grub boot floppy (just so that disk is not mounted). I have two HDDs, with the second one dedicated to flavors of linux and its the first parition on the second HDD that i want to install grub on. So i ran grub> root (hd1,0) grub> setup (hd1,0) Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists... no Checking if "/grub/stage1" exists... yes Checking if "/grub/stage2" exists... yes Checking if "/grub/e2fs_stage1_5" exists... yes Running "embed /grub/e2fs_stage1_5 (hd1,0)"... failed (this is not fatal) Running "embed /grub/e2fs_stage1_5 (hd1,0)"... failed (this is not fatal) Running "install /grub/stage1 d (hd1,0) /grub/stage2 p /grub/grub.conf "...succeeded
Though "install" says its succeeded, but while booting it just hangs with the word "GRUB" on top of the blank screen (and at times some high pitched music blaring from the speaker). I guess there is more to the embed command than that. Also when i run the embed command alone with the parameters as above, i get error 12: invalid device requested, which doesn;t seem to be much help too.
