I am not too familiar with Ubuntu, so you will have
to tell us at what level are you using the keyboard:
xkb directly via xorg.conf, GNOME, SCIM, or something
else. If you are not sure, briefly describe how you
set up the Hindi keyboard. Most likely, you are using
the GNOME keyboard switching applet, which uses xkb
internally. The problem is either due to a
misconfigured keyboard as you surmise, or possibly
an error in the Hindi keyboard map. If you give me
the above information, I can try to fix the problem.
