Haven't tried the USB interface, but I have the same box (502T) from
MTNL and am using it through Ethernet, which works fine.  Can send
more details if you need them.

With Ethernet too there are two ways of using the 502T (as a router
and as a bridge).

Even I used it through Ethernet and it worked absolutely fine for me in Linux, 
it provides DHCP by default so you can set your machine to receive IP through 
DHCP, also the default IP of router is http:/192.168.1.1 I believe.
 
 Few days back I inquired D-Link support for this and they said it can does not 
work with Linux using USB and they don't have any driver for this, still you 
can try USBnet module may be that can help, I read about it on one of the 
internet posts.
