Linpus is a a very minimalistic version of gnu/linux shipped with acer laptops. I suggest that you replace it with a mainline distro like Mandriva or something. However, Acer laptops have problems regarding acpi. There is an kernel patch called acer_acpi, but I could not get it working. So you won't be able to check out the battery status.
