A good software doesn`t become good by just the starting code, the bugs are the reality and finding bugs is a painful job, u can`t except people whom u have sell the code to find bugs , Next major portion is right documentation and that too in as much as languages to get to the most of the people . These two things apart from making your code more efficient is a major driving force for open source......... > 2) i dont know much about GPL and other type of licences, but what my friend > said that if someone purchases some software like we were talking about zend > studio then zend people will give them the source code of zend studio. is > this right? > I don`t have idea about zend , the companies too go this way .The open source software is also called FLOSS (free liberal open source software) , the liberal or in hindi mukt means the same thing, i.e u are getting the code with purchase. The Free software doesn`t mean free as in apple , it means free in spirit. And this is the concept of open source. > ok now 1 more thing > > if that was right and someone purchases that > or any s/w with source code then can he make the some modification n sell > using his own tag(ofcourse he can do modification). > yes he can in some licences, But the Recognition to the main developer is necessary and ethical. -- "When i can run , i will run , When i can walk , i will walk, When i can crawl , i will crawl.
