Try only line below without resume and apm settings:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18.2-34-default root=/dev/hda7 ro noapic vgahi acpi=off

You can add / delete the following also:
noapic
vgahi or vga=771
nolapic
acpi=off

I know it is little bit of hit and trial but I have not been able to
find any full explanation. For wide screens either vga=771 or vgahi
seems to work and it also depends on distro. Debian works with vga=771
while ubuntu needs vgahi.

And do post back so others may benefit.
