Hi, We at our company are looking to build a monitoring framework for monitoring various parameters on our servers which are mainly AIX v5.3. The parameters we are looking to monitor are CPU utilization, memory utilization, no. of processes for application users etc. The other parameters we are looking to monitor are application specific and will be derived by parsing log files. Some parameters might even come from querying a database.
The system will also have an alert facility based on escalation levels etc. I wanted to know if anyone on the list has such a system in place and if he/she can give some directions on 1. If a framework like these exists where itl be easier to adapt it to our needs than to write a total from scratch solution. 2. The potential pitfalls to avoid. 3. Any other suggestions Our setup has core java applications as well j2ee based web applications and relevant application server.
