Yes, thats right. You'll need to sign up for an API
for this.

Simplest way to do this would be to modify your apache
conf to map a local url to your localhost. Just go to
/etc/hosts and map it in this fashion,

127.0.0.1    localhost    myhost.foo.com 

and then get the key for http://myhost.foo.com .

Make sure that the name is really unique, since a lot
of people have probably used this hack - using your
name with some other unique words is a good idea.

Remember, if you're using lampp, then you probably
want http://myhost.foo.com to point to the htdocs
directly.
