If you don't mind using proprietary drivers, some of which have had unfixed root exploits and put your computer at risk for years, then nV definitely plays better with Linux. On the other hand, if you want to show support for and reward companies who make their card APIs available to the FOSS community to develop drivers with, ATI is the right choice.
