Hi Inder, Try formatting the harddisk with gparted [0]. If you do not have any linux distro installed, try any live-cds. I guess most of them come with a disk partitioner (mostly gparted). You can also give a try to gparted live cd [1] If you have a linux distro installed (which i am not sure as you talk about windows), you can use cfdisk[3] to format you external harddisk.
