In Gnome, the 'System Monitor' application has a tab for 'File Systems'.
The 'Resources' tab provides the memory utilization. Ubuntu 8.04
onwards, they're cairo enabled so look rather good too.
Apart from that `baobab` is there which can provide directory level usage.
