Hi all, I got a 23 inch LCD for my laptop and configuring it was more trouble than I would have imagined (aren't monitors supposed to just work?). But I finally managed to figure out the steps and documented them here http://blog.syntaxvssemantics.com/2009/10/using-external-1920x1080-lcd-monitor.html so that others in the same situation will benefit from it.
Related note: Someone please implement an extend desktop option for KDE! Mirror is pretty much useless.
