What do you mean by an open-source option here? There is certainly
open-source software to send/receive SMS. kannel, as recommended
by Abhishek is a good option. It is pretty straightforward to set
up, and people on this list can help you with any difficulties
that you have. However, unless you

SMS India" turns up many hits, but I have never tried any of them.

kannel works well, but a well-run SMS gateway is probably a better
option.
