I can't help you with the lyrics. What I can make out sounds beautiful
though. (I am leaning into tomorrow). I bet some list-attempts to >decipher them would yield some funny but finally correct results.

===Unfortunately, I can't help much either, especially low-tech 56K dialup connection. Alas, that is one of the perils of IM fandom. Think back to those early days, when it was a Cocteau Twins-esque swirly feeling...

I always feel way unhip when people talk about new music. I only bought a few CDs in 2002, and most of them "dropped" (as Carson would say) much earlier than that. I do like Norah Jones, and think the buzz around her is justified. I like Queens of the Stone Age. I like Mates of State (another couple leading a band). I saw "Soundtrack of our lives" on Leno and thought they looked pretty good, but I don't have the album. Oh, and I saw the Doobie Brothers on What's Happening!

==Don't feel bad; I work at a music store and feel like an old fart some days. There is some good material coming out; I just can't absorb it very quickly. There are a few recent releases I recommend heartily:

Francoiz Breut: "Vingt a Trente Mille Jours." This French singer is sultry without trying to be; lyrically interesting as far as my college French takes me, and musically, mixes her rock with moody pop, Gypsy bands, orchestration, French pop, and 'un peut de tristesse.' I would gladly bear her children, but her life's partner is also her musical partner. *sigh*

Nick Lowe: "The Convincer." I listen to music eight hours a day at my store, and most goes in one ear and out the other. Somehow, this one cut through and really caught my attention. This is one of the best efforts I have heard from him. It seems quieter (mostly), but far from passive. Nick sings about the real sides of love on cuts like "cupid must be angry" and the witty and to-the-point "Has she got a friend." Also a killer version of the old Johnny Rivers song "Poor Side of Town." So good that I purchased it new!

This one's pure guilty pleasure, but I know there are many East coasters on our listserve...

Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons 'Very Best of' on Rhino. Hey, can you think of any Italian-American doo-wop/harmony vocal groups that rivaled the Four Seasons? (the Beach Boys didn't doo-wop, although they were influenced by the Black vocal groups at Hawthorne High, as well as white-bread folkies like the Brothers Four.) Who loves you, Pretty Mama? This one compares well to the earlier 'Anthology', except without that cringeable cover of Dylan's 'Don't think twice.' Furthermore, I think this one has been remastered, and it has the theme song to 'Grease.' Woo-hoo!

Our store received copies of those AC/DC reissues, and there's nothing like Bon Scott singing 'If you want blood' at suitable volume levels. Ah, Bon, we hardly knew ye.

Anyway, hope this is enough to tide you over until that TASTY NEW IM RELEASE hits the stores. I hope it's soon; I will promote the heck out of it, but I can't work at a cd store much longer. Must...get...life!! Must...get...paying job! Otherwise, I'll have to review all those AC/DC reissues, or perhaps my favorite Chopin recordings.

Ramblingly Yours,
Erik of Seattle

(Are our East Coasters enjoying the snowdrifts? Hope you see your driveways by April!)
