It is not only thier love of great literature that I love, but also thier love
of making great literature themselves. I've often thought and said Karen would
make a great short storyist. In fact, this is a cornerstone in a good portion
of the music I love. Over the Rhine (Ana Maria probably agrees here), Iona, U2,
even Ladytron (well, interesting charachter development). But, despiite all
these great writers/musicians, I think that Innocence Mission is one of the finest.

I've loved Hopkins' work for a long time. To me, No Storms Come is one of
the greatest adaptations of poem to song I've seen (although Loreena
McKennit has done some good stuff too). Does anyone else have any thoughts
on this?
Also, in Walking Around, Karen sings of a boy she knew saying, "Hang on,
stay gold." I'm thinking it's a direct reference to The Outsiders by S.E.
Hinton ("stay gold"), who was actually referring to Robert Frost's "Nothing
Gold Can Stay." (I also think it's the same boy--her brother--who went to
England in Curious...)
Okay, random question:
In the lyrics of Tomorrow On The Runway, the following is written with
single quotes:
'While my heart is sinking I do not want my voice to go out into the air'...
Does anyone know what she's quoting? (Possibly Eudora Welty, ACM?) It may
even be a personal one.
