Belinda, I'm so happy you had a beautiful experience.

It's nice to hear about other peoples reactions to the night, because I
think we all can relate. There is a certain feeling that's associated
with seeing the innocence mission that I think is unique to just seeing
them, that I don't get with any other band. To know that there is a
relatively small group of people out there that have recognized and that
share this feeling creates a certain kind of intimate kinship with people
that we haven't even really met. Thats why I love this list. I've met so
many kindred spirits on this thing...and I have Steve, Mike, Don and
Karen to thank for it. (and Natalie Merchant....entirely grateful to
Natalie for having them open for her in 96 and for my boyfriend at the
time who swooped me up last minute to drive to Sienna College for the
show.)

But to hear about the "babbling"...( I remember the first time I ever
spoke with Karen I started five sentences and didn't finish one) to hear
about the "crying" one moment and "dancing" the next...(I mean my face
typically looks like chevy chase and dan acroy's in the movie Spies Like
Us when they are being turned around in that excelerator g-force thingy
one minute and then a song like Never Knew You From The Sun comes on and
I'm this wallowing weeping mess that's trying most anything to grasp what
little composure I have left before I become a red eyed pool of a fool on
the floor.) And well, this list if it does nothing else reminds me that
I'm not a complete loon because there are others out there just like me,
and well if I am a loon, I'm in very good company.

Belinda...I've seen you on the list a good many times...wish I had gotten
to meet you at the show...if I just woulda stepped up to that mic! Mic's
in hands are scary things...scary powerful things. Lord knows it wouldn't
have been pretty. I probably would have gone up there with every
intention of asking list people to raise their hands (which would have
been entirely insane to begin with) but then I'd probably have gotten it
in my hand and no sooner would I be belting out some show tune at the top
of my lungs...however irritating they may be, I could surprise you with
something even worse! A spotlight and mic = an ON switch to show tunes
and tapdance. Or some love song that has gone entirely wrong <picture the
scene in Bridget Jones' Diary when Bridget ( Renee Z.) sings that song,
"I can't live...if living is without you"> heh heh.

are you cringing yet?

ah k...I tend to ramble like anyones interested!...Have a goodnight
everyone! ~Emily

Pittsburgh, but it was worth it. This concert was my fourth time seeing
The Innocence Mission. I recently posted my experience for the first time
I saw them in Pittsburgh. I saw them again at the Birchmere in VA where I
gave Karen flowers. Then as a graduation present for my friend Kris we
went to see them at Tin Angel last year in May. > >This concert was just
as amazing as the others with a wonderful mix of Befriended (which I
think is their best album since "Glow") and Small Planes, Lakes of
Canada, and Glow. > >The opening band was very good in my opinion. I
liked the atmospheric trance inducing music. I purchased the CD and will
be listening to it soon. They were a cross between The Sundays and Opal
with a little blues thrown in. I didn't mind that their tempo didn't
change, but it would have been nice if it had. > >I arrived after all the
seats had been taken and that was about an hour before the first band
came on. Luckily I was able to score a spot close to the bar so I could
lean. I was also lucky to have a wonderful bartender, Joe, who kept my
glass of ginger ale topped off. The venue was so intimate that Karen, Don
and Mike had to walk through the crowd to get to the stage. And it was
crowded. > >What can I say about the concert that already hasn't been
said? It was great. I can never get over how strong and sweet Karen's
voice is. I cried during "Never Knew You from the Sun" and danced during
"Brave." > >Here's the set list in order: > >I Haven't Seen This Day
Before >Tomorrow on the Runway >Sweep Down Early >I Never Knew You from
the Sun >Today >You Are the Light >Going Away >One for Sorrow, Two for
Joy >Beautiful Change >Bright as Yellow >Brave >Keeping Awake > >Encore:
>Lakes of Canada >Where Does the Time Go > >I stayed behind talking to a
few new friends that I met at the bar. One offered to take my picture
with Karen with his digital camera. So when she walked through again
greeting the left-overs, I snagged her for a small conversation and a
photo. This was amazing. I got the chance to express to her just how much
her music has meant to me and, because I wasn't really prepared, I'm
pretty sure that I babbled a bit. Karen was so sweet thanking me for the
compliments and thanking me for traveling so far for the concert. To
which I replied, I would travel the world to hear you sing. Thank God I
only had to go back to my home town. > >I should be receiving the digital
photo soon, which will be added to my awesome collection of photos I have
taken with people I admire this year. I just recently returned from a
Stargate SG-1 convention where I got to meet my favorite actor, Michael
Shanks. > >Meeting Karen and talking to her--experiencing such purity of
spirit and humility and generosity and gratefulness--that made my year
complete. > >I must say that I like the smaller venues the best. Even if
I had to stand for 3 hours, meeting Karen was well worth it. > >Belinda >
