just wanted to say "hi" and ask anyone if they ever heard of a fella by
the name of josh ritter? or am i extremely behind the times? i just went
to a greg brown concert this saturday in vermont and josh ritter opened
up for him. he was absolutely amazing. words could not describe his stage
presence. he's been said to be a cross between nick drake and bob dylan.
it was just him and a guitar. the final song he asked the people behind
the sound board to turn off the mic and allow him to unplug his guitar.
he then stepped in front of the mic set up and sang to a crowd that
filled the paramount theater in rutland vermont. he had a voice on him.
and the lyrics...the mood....when he was done singing everyone stood up
for a good couple minutes, i thought he was going to come out and play an
encore! between acts i ran to the merchandise stand to buy a copy of
"hello starling" and so did everyone else in the theater...all signed up
for his e-mail list. he was the buzz that night. blows me away everytime
i see greg brown perform, he always has someone spectacular open up for
him. i always thought headliners were secretly afraid of a competitive
opening act. greg brown seems to truly want a quality show all around.
after coming home i immediately looked up his concert dates and it looks
like josh doesn't have many more around this area before he goes to
england. he will be playing the tin angel in philadelphia on november
20th, but it looks like that is a sold out show! he has a date in late
december in boston. i recommend seeing him live. oh, and if you don't
already have the album "hello starling" ....it's a sure thing...sure to
make you happy. as for his other ones...i've yet to buy them...only so
much moola! :( you can check out some reviews...
http://www.joshritter.com/v2/history.html also...has
anyone anything to say about the show this past friday? it's been quiet
on the list!i checked out the new website it's so nice to see all those
pictures! what's everyone listening to these days? besides Josh Ritter's
new one, i've got the doves "last broadcast" in the the player as well as
James "the best of", some old banjo tunes, Natalie Merchant's "house
carpenters daughter", Greg Brown's "further in". yep, it's a good mix!
anyone else i should be listening to? hope all is well with
everyone...emily
