Also, port 1033 is only open to connections from 'localhost' ... that is, the local computer. Remote computers cannot connect to port 1033.
## from another UNIX machine I have access to (I have obfuscated my IP address): derr@ironsides# telnet csXXXXXX-XXX.austin.rr.com 1033 Trying XX.XX.XX.XXX... telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused ## whereas, from the localhost you get: [csXXXXXX-XXX:~] derr% telnet localhost 1033 Trying 127.0.0.1... Connected to localhost. Escape character is '^]'. Someone on MacFixit forums appears to have used LSOF to determine that port 1033 is used by the local "loginwindow" process; e.g. this port is used by the login pane to authenticate you on login. -- Jeremy Derr <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Low End Macs - G-Books "ListNanny" Any statements herein represent my opinion and do not represent those of my employer.
