Hi, The one you listed: Apple Part Number: 590-0670 (small rounded triangle mic at end of cable) is a PlainTalk mic and the correct one for your Rev D iMac. A picture of one is here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2011101197 You need to choose it in Control Panels/Monitors&Sound/Click on sound/Sound Monitoring Source/External Mic I am absolutely sure you have the correct one.
