I must have been asleep on my earlier post. I should have said to check
your startup folder not the shutdown folder.

The way that the practical joke works is like this: You put an alias in the
startup items folder of something in the shutdown items folder. (possibly a
script) Everytime the computer is started up, it automatically invokes the
item in the shutdown folder causing it to immediately shut down the
computer and...driving the unwitting victim batty in the process.

I hope that that's all it is.
