If you aren't connecting to the Internet then you CAN use anything 
you want without problems.  If you are connected to the Internet or 
might be in the future it is recommended to use one of the blocks 
reserved for private intranets:

192.168.x.x
10.x.x.x

There is one more but I never remember the numbers.  The 192 range is 
probably the most commonly used.
