As John said, check startup items - PD does indeed put something
called "Kodak Precision Startup" in the startup folder. I had problems
when it was installed, removed it, and found it is not even needed; PD
runs fine without it.

I don't know, though, if this is the cause of the more serious problem
you seem to be having upon installing new applications. Do you rebuild
the desktop after installing? Don't know if that would help either,
but I've seen recommendations to always rebuild after every install.
