I think that Apple did take a step backward but NOT because of UNIX. When Apple released OS X, a lot of functions that are standard in the normal Mac OS weren't in X. Since then Apple has added a few, and other companies have released programs to restore this functionality but several are still missing. Where Apple dropped the ball (again) was that all the functions that were/are available in pre-X versions should have been in X as the base system. I've added X-sounds, X-windowshade, FruitMenu, and ASM to get some functionality back. I'm still looking for something to put the Trash Can back where it belongs; DragThing is the only one I've found so far but the trash feature doesn't work in the demo so I can't evaluate it. Apple's biggest mistake was the DOCK. They tried to combine the Apple Menu, Application Menu, Control Strip, Launcher, et. al. into one application and failed miserably. I have the dock set to the smallest size and hidden, but I'd like to delete it completely. Sincerely, Dennis -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
