i've experienced this problem more than once. when sending email from mail.app in os x (any version) it takes for freaking EVER! for people to receive my emails. i just sent one via earthlink through mail.app and it only took 5 seconds (to someone else, not myself, mind you) and with .mac through mail.app its taken over an hour and they still don't have my email.
