Are these name brand CD's? My guess is that either the CD's are of the cheaper variety or the CD burner creates disks that are unreliable on other CD-ROM drives. Some CD-ROM drives have different tolerance levels, especially as they get older. I'd try backing up to another brand and testing them on the iMac.
