Are these name brand CD's? My guess is that either the CD's are of 
the cheaper variety or the CD burner creates disks that are 
unreliable on other CD-ROM drives. Some CD-ROM drives have different 
tolerance levels, especially as they get older. I'd try backing up to 
another brand and testing them on the iMac. You really should test 
backups completely before you throw out the original data.
