Hi Listers, I've asked this elsewhere online without getting any usable answers, but...
Sometimes AOL (4.0) quits 'due to an error of type xx' and when I try to reconnect I get a message that the 'serial port is in use - do you want to reset it?', so I am unable to reconnect to AOL. (Resetting the port does not help.) Therefore I must restart the computer to be able to reconnect to AOL. Isn't there some simple way to reset the modem (make it disconnect) without going thru the 'restart' sequence every time? I have a dedicated phone line to the computer but no phone attached, so there's no way I can see to 'hang up the phone' to clear the line, but I don't know if that's the problem. It seems like the modem's the problem... (I did put a connector in the phone line where I can reach it easily at the side of the computer, but unplugging the phone line, then reconnecting it, seldom solves the problem.) Any suggestions anyone? Best Regards, Paul Mitchell [OS 8.6 - iMac Rev. A - 386 megs RAM] == -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
