I don't know. I would have agreed with this a week ago but not now.

I replaced an older hard drive with a new one this week and there is a
difference. The old drive was not crowded but the new one has forty gigs more
space on it. Runs faster and quieter.

With these new drives there is a buffer and faster transmission of data.
EVERYTHING seems to happen much faster than used to.

Data cached on the hard drive may be part of it or the illusion of speed may be
simply convincing.
