Hello everyone, I have a 400 MHz iMac DV running OS X 10.2.2. This morning I went to turn it on, hit the power button on the keyboard, nothing, hit the power button on the computer, nothing. OK, I unplug the printer, the ethernet cable, try again, nothing. I unplug the computer let it sit for a minute, plug it back in and try again. Now I get a whirr from the hard drive followed by a loud and irritating tone for maybe 2 or 3 seconds (just one, and not the start up bong). Then I get the start up bong and things look better, until I get the white screen with the scary message that tells me something about my firmware and says I should type either "mac-boot" or "shut-down", I chose "shut-down".
Now the computer is back to not turning on at all. I left it all unplugged, but I am at a loss as to what to do. My wife used the computer yesterday and left it on. When we got home last night, I noticed the computer was off. The only thing that has changed recently is that we moved and I just started using Verizon DSL the day before yesterday. Setting that up went fine and the computer was shut down and restarted without problem after installing this. Does anyone know what might have happened and how I can fix it?? I have backed up all the important things on the computer, so I am not too worried about losing data, but without getting the computer to turn on, I am at a loss as to what to do. HELP PLEASE.
