My goodness,

dan, i personally like the symbolism of the Buddha better than JC.

The Buddha led a long a fruitful life, walking the pathways of India,
sharing with any who chose to listen to his message on how to escape
suffering: the 4 noble truths.

Mainly, he said we suffer because of our desires.

Unlike Christianity whose adherents often claim to be the only ones with
the Truth, the Buddha told his followers to believe NOTHING he or any
other teacher told them without investigating the teachings themselves
and then deciding for themselves. This, of course, is one reason that
Buddhism TENDS to be a much more tolerant and thus peaceful religion
than Christianity.

The Buddha's last word, as he was dying (2 variations):
1. Be a Light Unto Yourself
2. You are the Buddha

He was, as you know, I'm sure, known as the Compassionate Buddha and
would not spend his time attacking liberals as though they were somehow
his inferiors. I remember a pre-reagan time when Liberal was not a dirty
word and of course it still isn't, really. I've almost always been in
the Minority so I'm kind of used to it now: i think W and Ashcroft and
their ilk are either morons or just plain sociopaths, believe that
capital punishment under any circumstance is the worse kind of murder,
think we should "steal" from the rich and give to the poor NOW, am
basically a Socialist, etc, etc.

I wouldn't typically write like this, but since the list-mom has, I thot
I'd share.

I suggest we all check out the speech given by Henry David Thoreau about
Captain John Brown: its full text is on the net.

Dale G.

P.S. I also very much believe that any relationship between my beliefs
and the Truth is merely coincidental .
