System config: MacOS 8.6 Iomega ZipCD (4-4-6), USB 1.1 Toast 4.1.3 Rev A iMac, 192 MB RAM
The ZipCD can burn disks (4x and 2x) just fine using Toast. Mounting the CD from Toast, the disk comes right up on the desktop. Doing a Norton Speed Disk profile on the CD shows everything's clean and together - no fragmentation. When I put one of these burned CD-R's in the iMac's internal CD-ROM drive, it won't read it most of the time. Occasionally, it will read after about 10 minutes of thrashing around, but it locks up virtually everything else in trying to access the CD-R. (I've tried disabling the Toast CD Reader extension and rebooting, but I still get the problem.) The iMac internal CD-ROM drive has *no trouble* reading commercial CD's. I'm using several brands of CD-R media. All are rated to be used at 1x-32x or 1x-40x (which should cover my 2x and 4x burn speeds). I burned a set of CD-Rs to back everything up so I can install a bigger HD and MacOS 9.1, but this is a hang-up to restoring everything. I guess I can reinstall Toast after the OS upgrade and just mount the CD-Rs from the ZipCD, but it is extra work that I shouldn't have to do.
