The firmware updates actually go into the hardware ROMs or something.  The
Mass Storage support is an driver or library for the OS, essentially
software.  Shouldn't be a problem.  Perhaps someone more knowledgeable will
give a better description, but the two are different and from everything
I've heard, you should update the firmware to the latest possible.
