I have DSL (Built In Ethernet). Virex and Sticky Brain open on startup. The panel in preferences also shows something called LCCDaemon opens on startup. I have no idea what that is.
An item called HotKey is in the list but isn't checked.
I also use 10.2.8 with DSL. A DSL connection is terminated when one powers off one's computer. AFAIK, it must be re-activated on start-up using the Internet Connect thingee. That's what I do anyway. If anyone knows different, I'd love to hear.
If you were getting connected automatically when you started up, without using Internet Connect, I think that means that you had one of your apps configured to connect to the 'net when needed, and that app was initiating a connection on start-up. There are lots of apps that can be set for this, anything that routinely gets info from a webserver, like virus updates, timeserver, software updates, etc. Sounds like you have changed your setup somehow so the app that was making a call for a connection is no longer doing so.
BTW, I Googled "LCCDaemon". Logitech Control Centre. So, something that was installed with a Logitech device?
As for the presence of "HotKey" in your Login Items, well, I just don't know about that, but somebody else might.
